Offset scallop challenge

So this card is for the Offset Scallop Gallop Challenge in the Moxie Fab World - there are a ton of entrants and there are some super cute ones (unfortunately I haven't made it thru all the competition yet...LOL) For my scallops I went outside the box and used my cuttlebug ribbon die to simulate scallops - hope thats what they were looking for. When the idea for the card came to me I didn't know that October was breast cancer awareness month, so that was a nice twist to this.

I created this card for my dear dear friend Kristy. For our 40th birthday, we and some other friends and family took a trip to Vegas and had just a great great time. Shortly after our return she found out she had breast cancer.... so we have been thru the chemo, radiation, the hair loss and now she has just gone thru her second reconstructive surgery. So this card is a welcome home from the hospital pick me up.

World Card Making Day 10.02.10

On Facebook, OWH threw down one last challenge for the WCMD - make a card with your most treasured/hoarded Christmas embellishment.

Since most of my stuff is still in storage I went with something that I LOVE, so therefore bought a lot of . . .these darling Heidi Grace cardstock holly stickers. I am a big fan of anything Heidi as well as holly - to me a timeless symbol of Christmas.

another OWH challenge

OWH is hosting another 1/2 and 1/2 challenge. Lets get a jump on the "holiday" season so that the shippers can get ahead of the game. The deadline is August 14, so just over a month to send in box or boxes that are 1/2 holiday - Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas and 1/2 everyday - missing you, thinking of you, birthday, etc. Of course there is some candy up for grabs too, so it's a win win that could yield a bonus...

And the WINNER is. . .

Don't know what happened with my link on the day of the Blog Tour, but some peeps were directed to my earlier post and left comments there. So, the total number of comments equals 27. Random picked number 18, so to be fair I put the comments in time order and came up with Erika from CraftyRika who ironically got Random #18 for her tour winner as well... LOL Congratulations Erika!

Happy Birthday America!

Happy 234th Birthday to my beloved country! I have only been around for the last 42 of those, but they sure have been fun, challenging and exhilarating all at once. Sandy with OWH has done it again... instead of a typical blog hop we are doing a "blog tour" featuring a Birthday card to commemorate Independence Day. I will link back to the OWH S&S blog so you can "tour" around to all the blogs - any time over the weekend. I was thrilled to be able to use up some scraps to create my cards - I made 4 altogether similar to the two shown. Check out everyones cards, their stories and maybe, just maybe they might be having blog candy or even freebies!!! I have blog candy!!! I have two stamp sets - one Hero Arts misc. sentiments and one Art Warehouse that has sister sentiments, some flowers from Michaels wedding dept (pictured below - I really need to figure out how to take better pictures of cards and what I post) and then I will also cut up a sampling of some of the Quickutz I have, but those will be a surprise.... hee hee. Just leave me a comment by 7/10 and I will draw a winner on 7/11.

OK... the video I wanted to post seems to have been pulled or something, so I guess I'm done here. Have a Happy and Safe holiday weekend - head back to the S&S blog and enjoy the rest of "The Tour"!

OWH Memorial Day Bloghop

Hello - welcome to the OWH Memorial Bloghop if you got here from Nicole Craft Room Creations you are right on track, but if you need to get back to the start... here ya go. I was able to make two cards for this hop - First off, being a vet I am a HUGE fan of all things stars so when I saw this quickutz archivers exclusive star border I had to have it. I love love love how this one came out. Although after looking at it all day while setting up the blog I realized I should have embossed my sentiment.... next time.

The second one I just "threw" together with some stars that were cut and "laying around" - again cut from a quickutz archivers exclusive die. Doesn't look bad in the picture, but I don't like how my "miss u" turned out :o(
If I would stop being a Last Minute Lucy I would have / could have done something different.

Being one of the last stops makes this a good place for a little entertainment break... I have included a U-Tube video I found that is just hilarious. I wish we had all this technology - internet, FB, U-Tube around when I was in the Navy. Even just taking pictures... we didn't take pictures like people do now a days and videos were a real rarity. I chose this particular video because it shows how sailors "let their hair down" and relax in their spare time while deployed. They did the best job at editing and gotta give them props cuz they had the best dancers LOL. In going thru a bunch of these types of videos some of the comments that were posted were, if you can believe it, negative. Saying they were giving off "the wrong" impression of the military or "wasting" tax dollars... blah, blah, blah - are you kidding??? When confined to a ship for months at a time - you've got to find a way to let off some steam and I think this was a great outlet. So I say "THANK YOU!" to all that have served - past, present or future... my military years were some of the best times of my life and hope they feel the same. (this is one of my favorite pics - me and my girl on deployment in Korea 1990)

That video also brings me to why I support Operation Write Home... I know all about "mail call, mail call". Mail Call is HUGE deal when you are stationed overseas. Yes its great to email, but when you get something that you can hold in hot hands, that you can put under your pillow or in your pocket. . . that is the best. Not only is the OWH website very informative, but we have all had a blast chatting on Facebook. We have done some challenges with prizes, some image exchanges and other fun chatter. . . so after the blog hop - hop over to FB and join in on the fun! I think I have rambled long enough. . . .so hop on over to see Susan. . . .she has blog candy....

My first blog hop

Hello All,
Welcome to the Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps Spring Blog Hop! If you would like to start at the beginning of the hop go to http://www.owhstarsandstamps.org/ OWH is a great organization that sends home made cards to our US Military that is serving overseas in remote locations that have no other access to cards to send home. Being a Veteran I know how limited certain things can be when deployed so I love that I can create and thus fill their void. In the last couple months of 2009 I sent in over 200 cards. So far this year I am just over 100 with my goal for the year being 400 - so I am well on my way. Please join our crusade - the next card deadline is for Mother's Day card are due to an OWH shipper by April 1st . . . check out the OWH website or on facebook to get all the latest and greatest updates on all the goings on.

Being that this is my first blog hop and I hope you I "do it" right and you enjoy the cards I have included. Thanks for stopping by and please feel free to leave your comments.

Please continue along this hop by visiting Joy at http://dustypenny.blogspot.com/

Blog is set up...

Here it is - my blog is set up. . .now I just need to figure out how to use it so that I can blog hop. It seems soooo overwhelming - hope I make it....
